Key stage 1 maths games are a great way for pupils to practise key maths skills in the classroom or at home. Once children understand the basics of the mathematical concept such as easy addition, use key stage 1 maths games which cover this topic to reinforce their knowledge through fun games. Board games and card games that are played by a group of children are a good way for children with more ability or knowledge to help and encourage their classmates.

Key stage 1 maths games can be very simple, such as a short game explained on paper for the child to play at home as homework, or they can be more complex bought games such as board games which cover several areas or concepts together e.g. addition, subtraction, halving, doubling, odd or even numbers etc. Easy maths games for key stage 1 can be made by classroom teachers or bought from educational games suppliers. Common topics for key stage 1 maths games and activities are times tables, money, fractions, addition, subtraction, division, place value, shapes and odd and even numbers. Quite often the same format can be used to make many different key stage 1 maths games changing only the topic covered. For example, ‘find a pair’ card games are great to use for a wide variety of areas of maths and also domino games where the question and answer must be matched to form a string of dominoes.
