Fun grammar games can help teach even the trickier aspects of English grammar to both children and to adults. English grammar can be a dry topic, especially when introduced through worksheets and repetitive written lists. Both children and adults learn best through activities that entertain them, making fun grammar games an excellent method to teach the basics or even complex areas of English grammar. There are many types of resources that can add an element of fun to grammar lessons. Fun grammar games can include flashcards, card games, board games and verbal games, which can be used with small groups, individual pupils or a whole class.

At Primary level, children learn about the importance of such grammar topics as punctuation, the different parts of speech e.g. nouns, verbs etc, homonyms, collective nouns, antonyms and synonyms. At Secondary level grammar topics might include prefixes and suffixes, metaphors and more complex sentence construction. Fun grammar games can be used in all these areas either using teaching materials on the market, or self-made teaching aids. There are many websites that offer flashcards and other resources to download and print out. On the whole, English grammar is not a popular subject with a lot of children who can be discouraged in their written work if it is returned to them covered in red correction marks. Using fun grammar games the emphasis can be moved away from written tasks and written mistakes thus rebuilding confidence in the area of grammar.
