Chart of times tables
A chart of times tables is often called a table square. It lists all the times tables from 2 to 12 in a square chart. The tables can be read as a list from top to bottom and left to right or as individual facts by reading across and down meeting the answer in the middle. A chart of times tables is a very useful resource for children while they complete maths exercises such as long division sums. Dyslexic pupils who find it difficult to retain multiplication facts are aided greatly by a chart of times tables. Having the answers quickly to hand allows them to concentrate, more fully on the maths topic in hand without being distracted by their frustration at trying and often failing to recall multiplication facts.
There are many products which help children with the practise of times tables. Some resources use songs and rhymes, other use the format of bingo or snap in order to practise the tables repeatedly. A chart of times tables can be incorporated into the checking mechanism of a times table games so that children can play independently with the answers available for checking if need be. The first times tables to be learnt are the simple tables of 2, 5 and 10. These have regular patterns and are most easily learnt. The next to be learnt are the tables of 3, 4, and 6. Finally, the tables of 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 can be introduced. A chart of times tables shows all the tables from 2 to 12.
