Nowadays there are so many classic & educational family games on the market. In toyshops, other high street stores and even in supermarkets you can find well known games that have been popular for years. Some well-known classic & educational family games titles include ‘Scrabble’, ‘Monopoly’, ‘Snakes & Ladders’, and ‘Boggle’. There are many educational games that make great games for the whole family to play.
These games can help children to practise key skills such as literacy and numeracy at home. Classic & educational family games can often be played with people of wide age ranges such as age eight to eighty. They are a great way to involve people of varying abilities and to entertain children in a constructive way. Years ago, classic & educational family games formed a large part of children’s lives before television and computer games were available.
Although they are still popular with many children, there are nowadays other electronic distractions for them. Board games, card games and jigsaws do not necessarily seem exciting compared with computer games and I-pods, however, some classic & educational family games have reinvented themselves in this new technical age by including an electronic component such as an interactive DVD to accompany the traditional game. Educational family games now cover a wide range of skills such as communication skills, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and co-operation skills. They also tackle key areas of the National Curriculum in English, Maths and Science, especially at Key Stage 1 & 2 levels.
